Bigtime Foods has partnered with farmers in the Eastern Cape by providing new crop varieties, new technologies while introducing sustainable farming practices.
The association with Bigtime looks set to raise the incomes of the farmers. Bigtime’s vision is to create a cost-effective, localised agri-supply chain for its business.
“We need black farmers to be part of sustainable, commercially viable and profitable enterprises. When we do that we will build a future for all of our people,” the company said in a statement.
Agriculture is one of the key sectors of SA’s embattled economy. Its contribution to the GDP fell from 4.2% in 1996 to 2.4% in 2018, while its value jumped from R50.5 billion to R74.2 billion over the same period.
